Photo Report: June 15th, 2012 - Disney California Adventure's Grand Reopening Day!
- 7-1-2012

Please enjoy our latest item, a photo report from June 15th, 2012, the grand reopening day of Disney California Adventure:

Cars Land banners as we head through Downtown Disney towards Disney California Adventure

The new dedication plaque at the base of the flagpole. I like that it's similar to the original dedication, just altered a bit to fit the new park vision

A fancy car parked outside Oswald's

I love the Red Car Trolley Mickey ear hat!

The Chamber of Commerce is the park's new Guest Relations

Past Oswald's, the first store on the left is Los Feliz Five & Dime

Details can be found everywhere you look, from the balconies, to the windows, to the sides of buildings

As you enter Los Feliz Five & Dime, you see a window display full of a bunch of vintage books

I love the use of Grizzly Peak in the Davy Crockett book!

Unique Red Car Trolley themed cookies

I was very tempted to get this Red Car Trolley playset

In fact, there's a lot of Red Car Trolley merchandise

The interior of Los Feliz Five & Dime

The fantastic Glow with the Show ears that light up in perfect synchronization with World of Color, the Mad T Party, and more!

Looking at the other side of Buena Vista Street

The first of four stops for the Red Car Trolley

There are various locations throughout Buena Vista Street where you can pick up your own free copy of the Buena Vista Bugle

The restrooms (which remain unchanged from the Sunshine Plaza days inside) are located in the Sepulveda Bldg.

I love the Elysian Arcade! A great way to connect all the stores on the east side together!

You can get fresh produce and drinks at Mortimer's Market

The Hyperion Bridge isn't spectacular, but it works with the environment

Big Top Toys is a circus-themed toy store

Elias & Company is the Emporium of Buena Vista Street

Cast member coming through to stock up on Buena Vista Bugles

Let's head into Elias & Company

The jewelry section is located in the far right of Elias & Company, where candy used to be located

This store (and all of Buena Vista Street) is really fancy!

Plenty of Cars Land merchandise available here

It really does look like an old 1920s Los Angeles department store. Good job Disney!

Merchandise for the Storytellers statue

More Red Car Trolley merchandise

The decor in Elias & Company gets more playful as you get nearer to Big Top Toys

The plaque for the Storytellers statue (we'll take a look at the actual statue a little later on)

A fitting quote from Walt Disney

Some yummy treats in the window of Trolley Treats

Disney's always well stocked on a selection of candy apples

Trolley Treats is really nice inside! You know, I think Buena Vista Street might even be nicer than Main Street...

Inside Atwater Ink and Paint

Plenty of figurines can be found at Julius Katz & Sons

Some generic Disney California Adventure merchandise

More Red Car Trolley swag

And now over to the other new land at DCA: Cars Land!

First thing you come across on your right is Fillmores Taste-In, where you can get some healthy snacks and drinks

Fits with Fillmore being all about organic fuel and such

Next door is Sarge's Surplus Hut, an ok merchandise location

This building is actually the old farm building from Bountiful Valley Farm. It had to stay as its actually a cast member building. But it serves quite nicely as a backdrop to Mater's Junkyard Jamboree

Wow!

The Cozy Cone Motel has 5 cones selling different kinds of food

A nice water feature on the front lawn

The Ornament Valley Mechanical Clinic is actually part of Flo's V8 Cafe

Next to the Cozy Cone Motel is Radiator Springs Curious, the weakest of the stores in Cars Land, as it only really sells generic Disney Parks merchandise and pins

That certainly doesn't mean the store isn't themed nicely though!

Back across the way is the extremely impressive Flo's V8 Cafe, one of the nicest themed Disney restaurants on this coast!

Ramone's House of Body Art is my favorite store in Cars Land. This store has most of the unique Cars merchandise

And at the end of the street we find the statue of Radiator Springs' founder Stanley, placed neatly in front of the Courthouse

Flowers made out of head-lights! It's all in the details!

Off to the side we see the impressive mountain range of Ornament Valley

I could stare at this all day!

The entrance to Radiator Springs Racers at a kind of awkward dead end

Luigi's Flying Tires!

Everyone has to grab a beach ball before the ride starts

Signs along the route to a Bug's Land from Cars Land

The reverse side of the signs advertise Cars Land instead

Red coming out for photos

A new view of the Tower of Terror as we head towards Flik's Fun Fair

The Red Car Trolley parked at the Hollywood Tower Hotel stop while the Pixar Play Parade was going on

Speaking of the Pixar Play Parade...

It's so good to have this amazing parade back!

Mr. Potato Head now rides on Lotso's redressed truck

And that's the end

Some radio stations were broadcasting live outside Disney Animation

The Storytellers merchandise is available at Off the Page

As Carnation Plaza Gardens no longer exists, some of the All-American College Band performances are held on the Hollywood Backlot Stage

A daytime look around the Mad T Party

The new mural on the It's Tough to Be a Bug building

I really like the new mural! It ties the attraction into the building and Flik's Fun Fair a lot betterÂ

Mater's Junkyard Jamboree!

Let's see a four leaf clover!

Now back to the front of Buena Vista Street for one more look around this impressive area

There's a vintage gas pump, tying into the theme

Inside Oswald's

The side of Los Feliz Five & Dime

Nothing says 1920s Los Angeles like a futuristic Monorail! :P

The have the hat embroidery machines at Los Feliz Five & Dime

The kids section of Elias & Company

A wigwag is a way to tell people that a trolley is approaching so they can get out of the way!

And of course, how can we forget the new icon of the park, the Carthay Circle Theatre!

The fantastic Storytellers statue

Unlike the Partners statue across the way at Disneyland, Walt and Mickey are at ground level here and accessible to guests, as they were not yet famous. They were just two of us!

The Red Car Trolley heading towards the Carthay Circle station

Pluto meeting guests

Not surprising for opening day...

A look at the Disney California Adventure banners in the Esplanade

First time I think I've seen a cast member selling balloons (or anything for that matter) in the Esplanade

Lines of tape still on the ground from the masses of guests that slept overnight for the grand reopening

A look at all the Cars Land banners in Downtown Disney

Free souvenirs: The Buena Vista Bugle and a Cars Land opening summer park map
